Gmos25 – Syliphone Mix – Music From Guinea

Editions Syliphone Conakry was the most famous of a number of state-funded labels set up in Guinea post-independence under the cultural policy known as Authenticité, the purpose of which was to revive and modernise the arts, especially music, while still remaining faithful to traditional roots. Regional orchestras were established throughout the country, including Bembeya Jazz National, Balla et ses Balladins, Super Boiro Band. and many others. Also, Miriam Makeba lived in Guinea for over a decade during her exile from South Africa and recorded on the Syliphone label.

This mix is just a little taste of the wonderful music that came out of Guinea on the Syliphone label. Expect deep roots, afro jazz, some cuban influences and touches of psychedelia. I hope you enjoy it.
