Honestly, I almost feel guilty writing these but sometimes this is what is called for.
First up, next week is the debut of the new monthly event I am doing with my man Eric Justin, No Way Back:
Brought to you by this here blog and Pittsburgh House Underground, No Way Back will be taking place at AVA Lounge in the East Liberty neighborhood. Beginning in August, No Way Back will occur every third Saturday of the month and will feature myself and Eric Justin as well as local and national guests. Also starting in August, in the Shadow Lounge Selecta from 720 Records and NiceRec will be dropping the old school hip-hop, funk, and reggae party jams at the same time as No Way Back. Admission to one will also allow entry to the other for a full night of soulful dance music of all varieties.
A notable blog has popped up recently: Placid’s mp3 blog over at his acid-house.net site. If you know anything about Placid, you know that he has almost all the ridiculously rare Chicago acid jams and jack tracks, as well as many rare and obscure Detroit, New York, and European house and techno jams. I am very excited to see what he pulls out!
There was an editorial shake-up over at Resident Advisor which you can read about here. Mad drama! Tami and Jeremy were certainly good people and I am sad to see them go, their work at RA is responsible for the increased diversity in coverage. I will certainly be very interested to see what future project they are involved in, and I hope they have a little place for my meanderings in it! In the meantime, a trusted cat Todd Burns is taking care of editorial duties at RA so my contributions will continue over there as well. I have a few things in the pipeline that should be of interest to the ISM crowd!
We have a few mixes that will be making their debut on ISM in the next few weeks from past contributors and new cats as well. I am gonna space them out a little bit so that we don’t overload everyone, but keep your eyes peeled for mixes from Scott Ferguson (again on the nutty eclectic tip!), Mikebee, Chaircrusher, Count Zero, and more.
