Gotta Give It Up

Taking it back to the old-school ISM style by Google image searching for the post title to find an inappropriate picture to slap on here…..

So yeah, we’ve been a bit slower on our posting during the summer, but other blogs have not been letting up. I figure it’s a good time to let you know what good shit I’ve seen out there on ye olde interwebs.

I guess this shit is really getting to be a little more bigtime since The Fader has jumped on the bandwagon with a new blog titled after the Theo Parrish jam “Heal Yourself and Move”. Despite the sketchy host, the blog is written by a cat out of Maryland who seems to know what he’s talking about as evidenced by the all Newworldaquarium mix on the new post as well as the fact that he covers Kyle Hall and Reggie Dokes amongst others. This blog is a new addition to our links list along with…

The dope Pop Your Funk blog (named after an Arthur Russell jam as Loose Joints), which has a nice new interview up with Reggie Dokes. It’s really good to see Reggie getting love from so many places, for me he has been one of the best electronic music producers since I first discovered his shit back in ’02.

Also on the “thank fucking god he’s getting some love” list is Scott Grooves, who has an interview up on Fabric’s website. He talks about some good shit, especially the idea of how musicians can be covered by interactive blogs. Also, the two mix CDs he mentions in that interview have been in constant rotation in my car since DEMF; they are both absolutely essential. I know people who rag on Fabric, but from over here on this side of the Atlantic they really seem to be doing a good job of achieving a higher profile for people who make good music. That is what it is all about, and they put money behind everything they do which helps even more. Scott is a cool guy and a good deejay, definitely go support him if you are in the area.

So yeah, to bring it back to us….. we’ve got some more good shit coming up. Some nice guest mixes from some underground cats including my boy from Chicago, more ISM mixes, more record reviews (I’ve bought something like 150 new and used records in the last month?!?! INSANITY. They’re not all gonna get a mention, but you’ll get the highlights), and a piece of commentary that I’m working on that connects really well with what seems to be obvious if you look at these pieces mentioned in this post. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the summer!

And yeah, those Grooves mixes are indeed brilliant. They soundtracked a couple of drives around Detroit, perfect setting for them 🙂
