I will be honest and say the pairing of UK techno producer Tom Dicicco and Jordan Czamanski’s Off Minor Recordings was not one I expected but then I like when a label throws up something unexpected like this. It certainly makes me more curious than just churning out the same old same old – though Off Minor has been nicely varied since it’s inception in 2013.
The eponymous cut chops and changes its rhythmic pallet effectively without ever losing sight of the underlying groove that drives the track before the main riff slides from left to right over it. It won’t set the world alight but its enough to make it stand out from much of the monolithic techno we’re subjected to at the moment.
The accompanying “We Let Go” is the real gem here. It’s a pretty simple deep techno cut, with more precise drums being elevated by a deceptively catchy and eerie synth that is augmented by deeper stabs, coming in and out at timely moments. Give it a few listens to let it seep into your mind, and it will keep dragging you back in for more. I’ve had it on repeat all week at this stage. This is the best work yet from Dicicco and probably my favourite cut on the label since the debut release from Czamanski himself.
