I’d like to introduce everybody to my friend Eric Justin. He’s been DJing house, techno, disco, and more in Pittsburgh for over 25 years and has quite a record collection. His specialty is New Jersey garage but he loves all the dope shit. He and I have done parties together for over a decade in various shapes and forms. You can check out some of his mixes over at his Mixcloud page. Here are some of his recent record picks…

With venues closed and there being nowhere to go, what better way to spend all that money you’re saving than on records, lots and lots of records? One of my favorites of recent comes from Roberta on Night Moves Records, catalog number NMR011. This EP contains 4 tracks of raw sample based dance floor bangers. There is just something so right about Roberta’s production technique here. I’m not sure which record I like better, this one or her previous record from a few months back, “Reaching Out” on Kai Alcé’s label NDATL Musik. Both future classics as far as I’m concerned.
Another newly acquired favorite of mine comes from the Australian based Chubby! imprint. This split 12” of Chicago’s Vincent Floyd, and Brad Peterson from Edinburgh, Scotland is simply titled Various Vol 3. The standout tracks here are Vincent’s original version of “Meditation” and the Derek Carr mix of “Time Machine”. “Meditation” is a deep Chicago track perfect for later in the night. Both mixes of “Time Machine” are good, but Derick Carr’s treatment is definitely the one I will be playing.
Next up is one is the spiritual side of house coming from Gigi Testa on World Peace Music with a remix from none other than Ron Trent. Gigi’s original mix of “Saudade For Salvador” is reminiscent of a lot of the material on Joe Calussell’s Spiritual Life records, combining Brazilian instrumentation with house. The flip is given the Ron Trent treatment and is quite good to say the least. This mix takes the elements of the original and adds that atmospheric element that Ron Trent is just so good at creating.
Last up is the latest EP from Italian Producer Nico Lahs, AKA Nicolo Loporchio titled Blow Your Mind EP on Dan Curtin’s Metamorphic Recordings. A great 4 track EP of deep and atmospheric techno. “The Free Life” is the one for me, blending lighter strings and synth choir with more aggressive 909 action. My other favorite of the EP is “Touch Me”, deep techno, FM Bass, piano chords and strings, what’s not to love?
