There is a fresh new vybe that has broken loose within San Diego’s dance music community. It is young, it is free, and it’s is infectious. What makes it so is a group of dancers from the next generation are working meticulously to offer the city their vision for Soulful Underground Dance Music here.
First off it’s not everyday you will find house dancers, b-boys, b-girls, and jitterbugs alike congregating together. The formula is simple play good music, and make people dance. It can’t get much better than that.
Often times in this city promoters shoot for the next biggest thing. This creates a huge void, and many attendees leave wanting more. As I’ve come to find here most have no clue how to do so.
Enter three crews of dancers, Good Vibrations, New Style Hustle SD, and Bang Uh Rang, all have stepped up to give the dancers of San Diego a space to groove. I attended this event in May at Balboa Park and the only way to describe what is happening is something organic that most likely won’t be for the pretentious, but will for certain allow true Underground Heads to gravitate on their own.
Amon The Gemini one of the events curators states the goal of the event was to organize a party for the dancers by the dancers. “An option for the community to reconnect in a noncompetitive focused environment, bringing it back to the essence of social dancing”.
This Saturday, July 24th the crew is back at it again. This time from 7pm until 2am at Encore Events Center. The crews host legend Mark DeClive Lowe, along with Juliet Mendoza. The event starts off with dance lessons for a small fee, and then moves into the party for the evening.
If you plan to head out this weekend do not miss Summer Madness. An event filled with youthful energy and honest music, it does not get much better than that. San Diego needs these crews, and these crews need you. Get out and support.
