The Beat Aesthetic, a night devoted to deep house and related musics that we began earlier this year, is relaunching next Friday night at a new venue. After taking the summer off, we’re arming ourselves with the silly good Impact Audio soundsystem and taking over New Amsterdam one Saturday a month to bang it out. My boys Aaesir St. James and Eric Justin will be holding things down along with myself, and we will be bringing the new hot shit, obscurities, classics, and all the generally ill joints you would expect. I’m pretty pumped up about this, I think house music is finally regaining love here in the Burgh and we’re gonna deliver the kind of shit that no one else in the city (region?!) can.
This is just rumour mill type business right now, but word on the streets is that some Detroit techno legends and possibly a Detroit house legend will be hitting the 412 in November. I will keep you posted on that. In the meantime, on the 28th of this month you will be able to catch an ultra-rare drum and bass set by me at the Bloomfield Bridge Tavern (where LTJ Bukem will be playing on the 14th!). I’ve played at that night a few times over the years (it has to be the longest running weekly club night in Pittsburgh BY FAR at this point, it started back in ’00 if my memory is working properly), but usually I play classic drum breaks, soul and jazz records, and things like that. This time I’m gonna dig through my soulful late 90’s drum and bass records and bring out the best of the best from that era. I play the opening set, so plan on starting your evening early if you wanna catch me. I’m gonna try to record it so I can post it here, but who knows how that will turn out. Big tings a gwaan!
