A chart, some parties and a goodbye.

Let’s start at the end first. While most regular internet users will be aware, the tragic news arrived yesterday that Aaron-Carl had passed on. A mere few days after being diagnosed with cancer he suddenly passed away yesterday. Everyone at ISM passes on their sympathies to his friends and family in Detroit. The guy made some brilliant music and by all accounts was a wonderful person. Rest in peace. Here’s one of my favourites…

Next up, for any London folk out there, as if you aren’t already aware, this weekend is a biggie and myself and a few others are making our way over later today for a ridiculous line up courtesy of Bleep43. Urban Tribe, Legowelt, ERP/Convextion and Dj Overdose are the heavy hitters on the line up but I’m as excited to see new london chap Matt Whitehead play live. I missed his set at Bloc this year, but by all accounts it was one of the highlights of the weekend. The set turned up online and here is a link for any who haven’t come across it yet. He also did a recent podcast for Bleep43, which is equally brilliant. He’s also released the first 2 12″s on the Rebel Intelligence label, check ’em out for some brilliant electro-funk goodness! Also, as Jitterbug mentioned earlier in the week, Boo Williams is rocking into town on Saturday night, so gonna be making my way to that as well. It’s gonna be a long, fun weekend. And it’s only the start of a long month for me, culminating with me hitting the Unsound Festival at the end of the month via a trip to Berlin. The posts may be bit slack for the next few weeks but I’ll be back with some reports in November.

Finally, here is a quick rundown/top ten (in no order) of some music I’ve been digging lately. I’ve not done a proper round up on here or on bodytonic in ages so felt it was time to throw a little something together. I should be making this a regular feature from now on.

Model 500 – OFI / Huesca
Ok, it may not be life changing but it’s still nice to see Juan (and crew) back in the game. The Mad Mike remix is the stand out here, kicking electro that strips the original of some of it’s more dubious elements.

Lowtec – Use Me (Laid mix)
The flipside of this was mentioned in Tom’s post. I love it too, but I think this matches it. The original on Workshop was pretty wonderful too.

James T Cotton – On Time
This came out at the beginning of the summer, but I’ve not taken it out of my bag since. No frills Chicago jack, with a killer vocal hook.

Skudge – Skudge Remixes Pt.1
Skudge is an artist I’ve sort of admired from afar without purchasing till this came out. Aardvarks re-work just wins out here; wait till you hear that bass drop. Jared Wilson on the flip puts a Chicago flavour on it, with a little sprinkling of Jeff Mills over it.

Dj Skull – Chi-Life
This one came out of nowhere. Four tracks of goodness, with “Floating”‘s tension fuelled pads being my pick.

Automatic Tasty – In It For The Money
This Irish man’s debut is surely only the start of big things, warm analogue house and electro with nods to Chicago and the warped electro of Japanese Telecom. His live shows are a joy to behold too. Don’t sleep.

Beautiful Swimmers – Big Coast
Nothing on this quite reached the levels of brilliance of “Oh Yeah” off last year’s debut, but all 3 cuts create alternate soundtracks to a blissed out summers eve.

Gwendolyn/Z-Factor – House Of Trax Vol. 5
And as the collectors continued to moan, Rush Hour continued to pump out the re-issues. Gwendolyn’s “Come To Me” was as rare as they come anyways, and it deserves all the new listeners it can get.

Lost Trax – Lost Trax 2
Another one that has been knocking about for a fair months but I only got my copy recently. Is this one ERP? Does it really matter? Lush deep techno and electro on an epic scale.

Electrick Dragon – 3rd Plan
Taken from his debut 12″ on Moustache, this was floating around on myspace for quite a while before dropping on wax. It’s so good I still haven’t listened to the rest of the EP. New school Italo with soaring pads and a bassline that if played too loud may cause structural damage.
