The headline says it all really. I recently came across this trailer for an upcoming documentary “To Have And To Hold” which beyond the odd naff bit in the preview looks like it could be a great film about our beloved black gold.
There have been a couple of other films based around records, the aptly named Vinyl which more focused on the nuttier end of obsessive record collectors (if anything it will make you feel less abnormal about your dedication to collecting vinyl; you will seem positively sane) and the wonderfully shot short film about Pittsburgh’s Paul Mawhinney who pertains to have the largest collection of vinyl in the world. Mawhinney also features in the new film but this one looks like it should be better than either, as hopefully it will actually focus somewhat on music and the cultural impact of vinyl and why after all these years it still generates such love and dedication from music lovers world wide. Chuck D, Danny Krivit, Mr Scruff and ?uestlove all feature which means it’s not just about oddball collectors but interesting and/or quality djs and artists who’s musical lives have all been massively impacted by vinyl.

always fun commiserating with fellow vinyl record nerds, even through film. i just watched a 2008 documentary about the drying up of independent record shops called “I Need That Record.” Although it focused completely on indie-rock/punk record shops, it was on point and touched on a lot of the outside factors that have made it near impossible to sustain an independent record shop.
This looks really dope but can anyone id the track playing at 2:21 in this vid?? The one when the image pans to the fish eyed view of a collection??? Please??

Thanks man, the *other side of that record is one of my favorite Steve Reich pieces…You know I have this problem, stupid I know, but when a record affects me that much I just can’t listen to anything else on the record (other side/mixes). It’s not with every record obviously, just the ones which affect me “that” much..

was just talking about this record yesterday – seriously insane stuff – reich recording pat metheny doing about 16 layered guitar parts to create this total wall of sound… so hypnotic it’s untrue… everyone should hear it at least once
