This is chopped out of a new records post I never finished back in the beginning of summer…
Some of my favorite music recently has been coming from people of a distinctly non-dance music background. The two members of Pittsburgh prog band Zombi have both had some nice electronic releases on a bunch of labels, but two recent ones have turned out exceptionally well. Steve Moore’s “Zero-Point Field” (YouTube above) dropped recently on the L.I.E.S. label out of NYC, and it is a seriously driving joint that is as much soundtrack as it is techno, while building and building into an emotional climax. “Frigia” is on the flip, and it takes things in a more spaced out direction while maintaining the sci-fi feelings of the A-side. Basic Channel-esque washes give the impression of wind on Mars before an arpeggio sweeps in, carrying the track with it through its highs and lows. This has to be one of the most serious techno record I’ve heard in a while, and one of my contenders for record of the year so far. Very nice work!
The other member of Zombi, A.E. Paterra, also dropped a sweet soundtracky electronic record recently, this one a special 7″ for Record Store Day that is only available from Mind Cure Records in Pittsburgh.

Frigia is one of my favourite songs of the year. Supermega-Arpeggio.
I think this record is good, but you are sleeping on the Terekke record and Legowelt’s Sark Island Acid record. LIES has a nice little string of releases going right now. If anything, this post should have been a LIES feature.
i have the Legowelt which is probably my favorite release so far by him. i’d have bought the Terekke in NYC had the copy at A1 not been severely cereal bowled. as for a LIES feature, that might be coming sooner than you think 😉
I’m with Charlie, love Frigia on this. Just put in an order for the Steve Summers one too, sounded pretty good from the clips.
