Guest Mix: Scott Ferguson of Ferrispark Records

Ferrispark

Here at ISM, we are huge fans of genre-defying eclecticism. Not the ironic “Kenny G mixed into 3 Six Mafia” kind of thing, we like people who can use different styles of music to tell a story, to set a mood. We may primarily be a soulful dance music blog, but we are also music nerds first and foremost and I think that has been coming out more in our podcasts and guest mixes, which makes me very happy. This mix is yet another fantastic examples of that concept.

When I was talking to Scott Ferguson last week about this guest mix, I told him he could do whatever he wanted with it. As you will see, he came through. While he is most known for his deep soulful house music on his own Ferrispark label, Scott is also just a music head. This is what he came up with, hopefully it will be the first in a series of mixes he does for us. This is definitely one for the “freethinking minds”……

interesting mix, not all of it would be my thing really, but that Bill Evans solo piano piece is beautiful, the Moodymann track is dopeness (when will he release that shit???) and I really like your own track there too (is that also unreleased?)

  3. Thank you (interesting is better then “it sucks”) The Moodymann I do not think will ever be released. I was given a white label years ago and from what I can understand there are only about 10 in the world. The tracks from my album “For All Days, My Blood, My Brothers” will be released near the end of 2008. Thanks again for listening and your feedback, it is greatly appreciated.
