A Couple Things…..

A Couple Things….

I feel like you’ve probably already seen these interviews if you follow techno and house on teh interwebs, but I have to mention them again. First up is the Theo Parrish interview at RA which was done by Todd Burns whom I gave some props to in a recent post, I think he did a pretty good job. If you look closely the top 5 Theo jams were compiled and described by yours truly, I tried to give a decent overview of the things that he does. Second is the Model 500 interview also at RA done by me, which was the impetus for my Detroit trip last month. It was great fun getting to talk to those guys, I left the 313 feeling very excited about music. It really is nice to see someone like RA making an effort to get good music some serious exposure, I feel like most of the really big bits they’ve had on there since the beginning of the year have been more to ISM’s tastes than the usual mnml stuff they are known for. Philip Sherburne also knocks it out with his “Jukebox” piece with Carl Craig for The Wire magazine. It can only be a good thing when you get someone as knowledgable about music as Carl to just talk about dope records.

There are a couple mixes up on the web right now by some cats that you really need to check out. First up is Matt MacQueen’s mix for DeepSoul3, which features many ill slow disco/boogie/italo jams, perfect for the breaking warm weather. You should be paying attention to Matt’s writing over at Moodmat (relatively infrequent at this point) podcast with Dave Siska over at Sonic Sunset which embody everything good about dance music from disco to experimental electronics and everything inbetween. Also coming with the heat is Trackwerk with thier guest mix by my man Rick Hopkins. This one starts out beatless and dubby before building up to a warm funky techno/house groove. Another sweet summer joint. Finally, the man like Placid drops another set of ridiculously rare and expensive Chicago house jams over at Mezerik. You probably won’t be seeing most of these around your local second hand shop, so this is essential just to know what some of these records sound like! I love it when he does mixes like this, they leave me green with envy but happy to be able to rock out in the car like it’s 1988 and I’m driving down the Dan Ryan Expressway.

Also, our man Aidano will no longer be contributing here at ISM. Unfortunately some kind of technical screwup led to the loss of many of his previous posts, but I will see what can be done to get them back via waybackmachine or something similar. Hopefully Aidan will be rejoining us again at some point in the future! In the meantime, we are gonna try out a couple new contributing writers whom you might know from the comments section here. They know what we are about, and they are opinionated bastards so they should fit right in. You should see some things from them very soon!

Don’t forget about the ISM sponsored event in Pittsburgh this Saturday night featuring the Godson Rick Wilhite:
Rick Wilhite in Pittsburgh 5-10-08
If you are anywhere near the 412, I highly reccomend coming out for this. It should be a very special night!

Keep an eye out on this space for a guest mix by our man over at SoulFunkLifestyle as well as others, plus some record reviews once i get a couple ridiculous hauls in later this week. I will also be posting up some pics and if we’re lucky some audio from the Rick Wilhite night.

Saturday in Chicago: The Soirée

This Saturday nite February 4th 2023 in Chicago is a very special event. Noleian Reusse and I have been friends for about 14 years now, and in that time we have DJed together and made music together on a number of occasions. Now we are throwing our first party together. I hollered at the homeboy…
