Has it really been since February that I did a mix myself? School was keeping me from getting anything done, and since school ended I attempted but trashcanned a few mixes that just didn’t capture what I was going for properly. Yesterday, I finally got it right. This one is for the Trackwerk blog, to complement the dope mix that Scott did for us last month.
On this one, I wanted a warm deep house and techno mix that I could bang in my car. A lot of these jams are things I picked up in Detroit over the festival weekend, some are other recent things I picked up, and I threw in a couple old classics as well. I chose the tracks for their dreamy feeling, but when they were all combined I noticed that the themes of many of the songs were based in the harshness of life. I chose the title “Living and Dreaming” for the mix to celebrate the overcoming of those bad moments with the good ones, whether in reality or in your mind. Music is certainly one of the main things that keeps life worth living, especially gorgeous uplifting jams like the ones on this mix.
You can find the mix here! Thanks again to Scott at Trackwerk for hosting this mix and for his excellent mix for us, definitely check that one out if you haven’t already….

nice mix doggg, you be droppin some heaterz!
This is excellent Tom.
That Shake track is seriously good – probably my favorite of his.
I think this mix is weak. so much, that I have not listened to it yet. So long a you can assure me that this mix will cure my fever, to which the only cure is more star chime.
🙂
Looks like a great tracklist as usual. It could stand to be a little louder. That seu jorge track is very nice, gotta love that dude, his covers of bowie songs for the life aquatic were vast improvements over the originals. Man the stereo panning on the congas on “club lonely” is really great. That osborn track is just silly good, it really takes the mix in a completely different direction. Where’d you get that? It’s ridonk, kind of reminds me of “in the forest” a little bit, but of course deeper and less straight up disco. Man I wish I would have bought that pirahnahead record when it came out. In typical tom cox fashion this mix covers a lot of stylistic ground, but I think it’s definitely your most coherent attempt at that eclectic style so far. A+
great mix tom. really hits the stride for me about mid-way though. especially love the string of records from osulunade, trent/owens (serious track that), piranhead, ican. i’ll be tracking a few of these down in the future. thanks for sharing.
Please tracklist!!! AWESOME mix. Dig all the tunes.
IF not, please name at least the last one… kinda ragga-ish… with “WAR PARTY” lyrics… what is the name of that???
THX ALOT!
actually make that the last 2 tracks.. unless it’s a remix of war party or something…
thanks again folks, and again.. jammin to the mix here.
there’s a tracklist on the Trackwerk page. here
i think he was confused somehow, the track he is referring to is the last joint on the JJ+J mix you just posted up!

Yo this is one of the best mixes you’ve posted Tom. That Piranhahead track + the Ican are valid! Must track down.
