Guest Mix: Jez Proctor – The Eternal Journey

Jez is the man behind one of my favorite blogs, Inner Sounds. He is always digging up nice little gems in all styles which he shares with his readers. The great mp3 blog Donnaslut also hosted a few of his picks a little while back, so you know his shit is tight. We love us some conceptual mixes here at ISM, so we let Jez have a go at it and he knocked it right out of the park. This one is perfect for the approaching spring time, I expect it will be getting heavy rotation for at least the next two months.

This is what Jez had to say about his approach to this mix:

So, Pipecock approached me a little while back with the idea of a mix for ISM. I’d just spent a lot of time listening to some Charles Stepney productions and really felt like I wanted to use some. But one track above all was jumping out at me. From Ramsey Lewis’ 1968 Cadet record Maiden Voyage. The track was ‘Eternal Journey’.

So I got back to Pipecock with an idea of drawing out a theme, not just through the music, but through the titles and words in the tracks. The bounce back on that idea was positive, so off I went along the shelves. Pulling out tracks about ‘The Journey’, ‘Infinity’, finding your Third Eye or some kinda cosmic storytelling. I wanted music not limited by genre, but then again, I knew I could string a few Pharoah Sanders / Sun Ra / Alice Coltrane tunes out for hours to meet the vibe I was after – but that would be too easy. I wanted to challenge myself a little harder than that. The result is here. A selection of music across the spectrum but all travelling in the same direction. I hope you dig it.

Download the mix here. Much thanks to Jez for this one!

In the next week or so, we have guest mixes coming from Keith Kemp and David Vunk. Rest is for the weak! Stay with us for all your music needs on your eternal journey……….

not sure the name of the dude, but he seems a likely candidate. It was taken from a Slow To Speak LP called Mis Information: Organised Contradictions. The track underneath it is Vangelis – Reve
