Big things are happening in the 412 next weekend! The legendary Danny Krivit will be making his Pittsburgh debut Sunday night at AVA Lounge in the East Liberty neighborhood. The show kicks off early at 7pm, and the opening deejays are Chill Cosby (aka my boy Paul Dang that I teamed up with for the Rick Wilhite event last year), J Malls (record nerd who works at the legendary Jerry’s Records as well as resident deejay at various funk/soul/disco nights around town) and this “Thomas Cox” character (guy who writes on this blog, has a record label or something, and works at 720 Records ;) ). To say that I am pumped to be playing on the same night as one of my musical heroes is an understatement.

For those who don’t know, Danny Krivit has been deejaying in New York city for almost 40 years (!!!!), having navigated the disco scene and its transition into house music (including some of the most famous edits ever committed to vinyl, most importantly THE definitive version of MFSB’s “Love Is The Message”) and is generally considered to be a legend in this dance music thing. I’m not sure what kind of set he will be playing, but I’m sure that it will be a whole night of good soulful music from everyone involved. And in the intimate AVA space, this night definitely has the potential to be something very special.

We don’t get too many good out of town guest deejays here in Pittsburgh, and to be honest I can’t think of one in the last decade plus that I’ve been involved with dance music that can touch the accomplishments of Mr. K. So if you’re anywhere in the region, I have to say that this is a damn good reason to make your way to the Burgh to see what we have to offer…..
