Some Random Things Plus Some Pittsburgh Gigs

As some of you may remember, about a year ago we hosted a mix of all original tunes by some friends of mine who are making drum and bass music as Sight Unseen. They use some techno sounds in a very different framework (combined with dub and of course breaks and deep bass), but to very good ends. They are back with another mix of all originals this year, this time an exclusive for the Everyday Junglist blog. In this one, you also get a taste of what they are all about. I’ll also mention that one of the “other projects” they mention is a collaboration with me on a variety of different sounds, of which you will definitely be hearing more in the near future! These guys are killing it with this deep drum and bass though, definitely check this out…

ISM’s own Jitterbug continues his breakout with a nice mix for Little White Earbuds. They include a little interview so you can get to know a bit more about the man. Having been an ISMer, it should come to no surprise that the mix is all vinyl with a couple loops thrown in from his MPC (not unlike his last online mix, which is still one of my recent favorites of mine!).

Pittsburgh continues its ridiculous pace of events with two things coming up that will be of interest to ISM readers who might be in the region. This weekend we have Traversable Wormhole and Shawn Rudiman live, brought to you by the Humanaut guys who did the Jus-Ed gig at the end of the summer (and many more!). These guys always have really nice soundsystems, and their events are done with care. It’s good to see these guys moving a bit closer to my tastes in their events!

On black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving), I will be opening up for the man like Ron Trent at the Shadow Lounge! To me, this is probably the wildest show yet this year, I honestly can’t believe that I will not only get to see Ron in Pittsburgh (which prior to this year would have been completely unbelievable), but that I get to play records before one of my favorite deejays and producers yet again. I will definitely be armed to the teeth with sick new and old shit for this one. My man DJ Vex will also be playing before Ron along with SMI, and they are no joke! The other room has Sunshine Jones along with local support from Kelly Carter and Kevin. This is a pretty massive event for Pittsburgh, and it is for a good cause! I hope that everyone who is anywhere near the 412 (5 hours or less drive from Detroit, Toronto, DC, Bmore, Cleveland, Columbus, etc) makes it out for this, the more support shows like these are given, the more often they can happen! With 2011 set to be a big year in many ways, we need the events to stay poppin’. I can’t wait for this, and I hope to see everyone out there!

I’ll be posting a new mix by Red D very shortly, and another new records post in a day or two!

Saturday in Chicago: The Soirée

This Saturday nite February 4th 2023 in Chicago is a very special event. Noleian Reusse and I have been friends for about 14 years now, and in that time we have DJed together and made music together on a number of occasions. Now we are throwing our first party together. I hollered at the homeboy…
