Some Bread and Cheese and Fine White Wine

It’s kind of trite to say it, but A Number of Names’ “Sharevari” is one of the first techno tracks to come from Detroit. It is also one of the hottest, and that is really saying something considering the tunes that have come since then from the motor city. A number of artists have attempted cover versions, but the Dirtbombs’ recent go at it (whose video borrows its imagery heavily from the clip from The Scene in the top video) is by far my favorite:

This cover is part of an entire LP of techno covers by the Dirtbombs entitled “Party Store” (awesome title!) which will be dropping soon on In The Red records and includes covers of “Strings of Life”, “Bug in the Bassbin”, “Jaguar”, and more. There have been a few remixes commissioned for this project; Kyle Hall doing “Bug in the Bassbin”, Ectomorph doing “Jaguar”, and our man Omar-S doing “Sharevari”. These remixes were done for Scion A/V, and in an obvious grab for credibility (hahaha) they asked if we would like to be the spot to debut that one, so here it is! You can download it for free from Soundcloud…..

The Dirtbombs – Sharevari (Omar S Remix) by ScionAV

On a more serious note, I think it’s pretty cool that these guys came to us for this specifically because they know we always support that real Detroit shit. I am generally pretty skeptical about corporate involvement in underground music, but when it is done right (like RBMA and a few others), I have no problem with it. Especially when it helps good artists get paid! Scion also did a little video interview with Omar-S that has been getting ignored when posted by them, you can check that out here if you’re interested:

interested to hear Omar’s take as I think the dirtbombs version is pretty weak. On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised by their version of Jaguar.

That Shari Vari clip from The Scene is my number 1 all time favourite youtube clip.

Really diggin the new FXHE with Kai Alce, and only just picked up the Plesetsk Cosmodrome, serious record.

  4. I think it drops March 15th on wax… SOLID! ‘Party Store’ u gotta be midwest (and some east) to really get that one

  5. Kenny says:

I thought Party Store was solely Detroit. Either way, i got it 😛

  6. Ulterior says:

what is the id for the track at 3:55 from the omar s interview

  7. Tom says:

Thoughts on Omar S’ new one.

  9. kenny says:

checked out the sample a couple of weeks ago. going on that, i’m not mad on it, but i reckon it could be a big record for him.

  10. I think the 12″ drops on the 15th. I have the LP already too. 😉

‘Party Store’ is a Midwest thing but I could be wrong about parts of the East…

congrats on getting the party store scoop.

as a bit of a omar s nut, i’m a bit underwhelmed with the sharevari cover/rmx… might be the fact i’m listening to it on earbuds. will give it a proper listen tomorrow.

loving the trance dance 12, at least what i can hear from the short mp3 sample

    It’s “Three Blind Rats”.

I’m excited about that Dirt Bombs LP although the Omar-S remix is a bit underwhelming? It’s alright though because his new one is ridiculous!
He played it on Saturday night here in NYC and it absolutely brought the entire house down. Looking forward to getting a copy of that. Love the title too… Here’s Your Trance… Now Dance!

  14. mats says:

First omar-s remix I’ve heard that sounds a bit underwhelming, usually every thing he does has that distinct omar-s sound and feel™ that makes them great, but I could detect none of that in this one, this could have been made by anybody, but I would never have guessed omar-s.

Waiting to get my ears on that new on though, and Incognigro from the one with Kai Alce sounds really hot and hazy too.
