Music 2020

Shackleton / Zimpel – Primal Forms [Cosmo Rhythmatic]
Best 15 minute+ pagan jazz workouts.

Mario Acquaviva – Notturno Italiano (Ron Trent dub) [Mother Tongue]
Best little-known Italian boogie record re-worked by a deep house maestro.

First Touch – Skyhigh [Mother Tongue]
Best new disco record that could be possibly even better with a killer vox added.

Jon Dixon – Times of Change [4evr 4wrd]
Best hi-tech jazz.

W1b0 – Acidalia Plantitia [Bass Agenda]
Best face-melting electro banger.

Masarima – Freak Like U [Clone Royal Oak]
Best high tempo electro-funk record that made you pine for the sweatiest of sweaty dance-floors.

Danny Wang’s petty yet sometimes hilarious rant against image conscious, cookie-cutter dj, Peggy Gou.
Best episode of Neighbours. (You can fucking stop now dance music, thanks)

Carly Rae Jepsen – Cut To The Feeling (live in Manchester)
Best confetti cannons.

Kirk Degiorgio – Leave Everything Behind [Neroli]
Best bass-line that sounds like the theme tune to an 80s cop show.

Millsart – Every Dog Has Its Day Vol.6 [Axis Records]
Best volume of the Every Dog Has Its Day series released in 2020.

POC being more recognised by large dance music media platforms
Worst attempt at back-tracking from years of white-washing dance music cultures, and all done because another black person was brutally murdered and you finally bowed to the pressure of getting called out for your narratives that limited the coverage of POC, not because you actually, by your own choice, thought it was the right thing to do.

RIP Florian Schneider, Mike Huckaby & Andy Weatherall.
