March Vinyl Acquisitions

As spring aproaches I am hopeful that we can all get together again on the dance floor sometime soon. Even if that dance floor is outdoors in the park or under a bridge, we all need this and there has been so much good music released over the past year that all of us DJs are anxiously awaiting to play. Here are a few that I bought recently.

First up on Space Shepherd out of Dublin is the Unwavering EP by D&S. Quality electro that was composed entirely using hardware. My favorite track here has to be “False Prophets” with its ominous intro about biometrics. Approaching Events is also really good.

Next up and in an entirely different direction comes “Love Is Growing Deeper” on UK based Lockdown Records and produced by Matt Early & Lee Jeffries. Take my advice and go strait to the B side to find the Opolopo mix for a prime time dance floor smasher.

Stefan Ringer has put out so much good music lately and his track Vloss on Future Shock Misik’s “Excursions # 7” is no exception. The same EP has a broken beat track called “Come Around” by Echln featuring the vocals of Amarafleur. I see both of these cuts getting heavy rotation.

So… Nu Groove is back after a 29 year hiatus. Will it be the same? We’ll have to wait and see because the label is now owned by none other than Defected records. Yes, Nu Groove is now officially an import for us US based DJs. Nu Groove 113 was released back in February and is a split featuring Jovonn and Deetron, neither of whom released material on the label back in the day. Jovonn was putting out trax on Emotive and his own Goldtone label around the time that Nu Groove released their final few tracks and Deetron was about 5 years away from putting out his first record.
The two tracks that stand out on this 12 are Deetron’s “V-NRG” and Jovonn’s “Random”.

While we’re at it, here are my all time favorite Nu Groove records:
1) Groove Committee – I Want You To Know
2) Bobby Konders – House Rhythms
3) Basil Hardhouse – City Streets
4) A.B.T – I Desire You / I Need It
5) 33 1/3 Queen – Volume One

Saturday in Chicago: The Soirée

This Saturday nite February 4th 2023 in Chicago is a very special event. Noleian Reusse and I have been friends for about 14 years now, and in that time we have DJed together and made music together on a number of occasions. Now we are throwing our first party together. I hollered at the homeboy…
