Our First Guest Mix: Dean Feeney of TR One

Stepping up to the plate for our first guest mix is 1/3 of the up and coming Irish techno/house group TR One, Mr. Dean Feeney. With their first vinyl release just out recently, the TR One guys are doing it up oldschool style with the hardware live jam sessions for their tracks. Their influences are wide ranging as you will see from this 90 minute mix which includes all kinds of things from Diana Ross to DJ Shadow to Breakage to Malik Pittman!

What is it that they put in the water in Ireland? There’s too much good stuff going on there right now! There seems to be a strong independent current running through the dance scene, lots of cats are really pushing their music, despite the hype for mnml or electro-house. Ireland is one of the new hotbeds of quality techno and house music with soul.

You can also check out other mixes by Dean and some from Eddie of TR One here. Dean and Eddie also deejay together and make music as Broken Audio Movement. We should also hopefully be seeing some more underground vinyl releases from these guys in the future!

Thanks a lot for the kind words and of course for hosting this mix for us Tom

  2. Just through reading your blog AND others, I’m slowly getting hip to current state of techno, in all its variety. I’m hearing some very decent sounds. Went to TR One’s myspace site. Gave a listen to their productions. Nice. Especially liked “Placenta Face.” If remixed/edited for more dramatic effects this would be a killer cut in the soulful deep house scene and the more soulful side of the techno scene. I like what these cats wrote on their myspace page: “We produce electronic music influenced by the soulful futuristic grooves of Detroit & Chicago.” That’s respect to two of the main pillarS on which techno & electronic dance music as we know it today was built. Respect, TR One. Appreciate the roots reggae mix to, Tom. Respect your thoughts & knowledge of music as well.

  6. pipecock says:

i don’t disagree with that, but this is a whole new set of talented cats coming out now, and mostly its not from the same places that the more established cats are from. its good to see a new generation that really seems to be knocking it out musically and theyre actually getting some credit for it!

  7. gmos says:

looks good Dean, I think you got pretty much all bases covered here 😉

will give it a listen over the weekend
    peace!

  8. Dean says:

Thanks Gav, Part 2 will be up soon…

  9. gmos says:

Enjoyed this Dean, thanks. You managed to put a lot of different styles together very well.

2 tracks I didn’t know that I really liked a lot here, the first(?) Breakage tune is sweet (some nice soulful melodies) and that Neil Maguire tune is quality (I presume that’s what you were talking about before?)

    looking forward to Part 2

  10. Broken Audio Movement / TR One says:

    Thanks Gav,
Yea that breakage track as well as the aza & eoin track are extremely soulfull and retain a lot of emotion despite being “drum and bass/jungle” – Its something i plan on developing on as a producer – combining soulfll emotion with what is otherwise considered hard fast energetic music..
Yea that track by Neil is Killer, thats only a very rough draft tho…i just couldnt help droppin it…its so good – hes got loads of stuff like that, a real interesting unique sound…cant wait to see him get some credit…hes actually remixing mystery train (the disco jam) for release on nice and nasty – the original will be released first as part of 4X4 project and after that will be a release of TR One remixes…Its all good bro
    Peace

  11. Mark Forshaw says:

Good to hear Neil’s material getting some exposure. He’s a friend of mine here in Liverpool – a serious music lover. Check the tracks on his Myspace page. Quite a talent:

  12. Broken Audio Movement / TR One says:

Neil’s stuff is brilliant, cant wait to have some of his shit on wax

  13. Neil Maguire says:

Nice one but if it wernt for the Forshaw I probably wouldn’t be into a lot of the shit im into now.

    Check his beats here:
