Dance Dance Dance (disco-house mix)

dancedancedance

Here’s something for the weekend, maybe get you in the mood for going out on the town or even winding down afterwards. It’s pretty eclectic, as usual, and I had no theme for this mix aside from having fun playing some favourites along with newer cuts. However, considering we don’t post mp3’s here, I did try to include some of the tracks that have been mentioned in the blog recently. Some of the newer cuts I included; Juju & Jordash’s Time Slip from their most recent EP on Real Soon, Johan Fotmeijer’s cut from Underground Anthems Vol 2 on Keith Worthy’s Aesthetic Audio imprint, (if you like smooth deep house you really need to check out the Aesthetic Audio stuff and also Patrice Scott’s excellent Sistrum label), Hercules & Love Affair’s Blind , the new Metro Area (which I absolutely LOVE) and Maurice Fulton’s most recent release as Syclops, Where’s Jason’s K (note: the Kathy Diamond track here is also produced by Mr Fulton). Psychotic Photosynthesis also gets an airing, and it’s proving a real favourite here at ISM as Juju & Jordash included it in their excellent Moon Journey Mix and Tom also put it on his guest mix for the tape blog a few weeks back.

here’s the tracklist;

1 Marta Acuna – Dance, Dance, Dance (P&P Records)
2 Kathy Diamond – Over (Permanent Vacation)
3 Juju & Jordash – Time Slip (RealSoon)
4 Nick Stracker Band – A Little Bit Of Jazz (Prelude Records)
5 Virgo – Going Thru Life (Radical Records)
6 Johan Fotmeijer – Back In The Days (Aesthetic Audio)
7 Hercules & Love Affair – Blind (DFA)
8 Metro Area – Read My Mind (Environ)
9 Invisible Man’s Band – All Night Thing (Mango)
10 Tata Vega – Get It Up For Love (Motown)
11 Joe Lewis – Separate Ways (Relief Records)
12 Chic – I Want Your Love (Hello Kenny Edit) (Supreme Records)
13 Moodymann – I Can’t Kick This Feeling (KDJ)
14 Lil’ Louis – I Called U (Epic)
15 Omar-S – Psychotic Photosynthesis (FXHE Records)
16 Rude Boy Farley Keith – Give Yourself To Me (Trax Records)
17 Steve “Silk” Hurley – Dub Your Body (BCM Records)
18 Syclops – Where’s Jason’s K? (DFA)
19 Tamiko Jones – Can’t Live Without Your Love (Polydor)
20 The Jacksons – Everybody (Epic)
21 Cool Creation – Wish Upon Love (Mokili)
22 Sade – Surrender Your Love (Kenny Larkin Illegal Detroit Mix)
23 Charles Mc Dougald – That’s Life (House Music Records)
24 Rick Wade – Detroit Hustle (Harmonie Park)
25 The New Birth – I Can Understand It (RCA-Victor)

It’s about 1hr50mins, hope y’all enjoy!

I am excited to hear this mix, as you play some of my favorite artists, and some of my favorite tracks by those artists. Good one!

Whatever else people say about disco, most of it was unrepentantly, giddily romantic, and “I Need Your Love” is perhaps the top track of giddy romanticism.

wow! what a tracklisting! i’m so stoked to hear this! i recently bought almost all of Omar S stuff straight from him and its all sooooo sick! I’ve been in a serious detroit funk lately and can’t seem to get out of it – and don’t want to anytime soon!

Loving this G, did you know there was an instrumental version of that Marta Acuna jam? On a Universal Robot Band LP (repress – 2005) there’s an instrumental entitled “Thyme”

this mix is really warming me up for our gig in The Zoo – Kilkenny tonight!

hey dean, thanks man! yeah, I got that repress a while back, it’s got some dope tracks on it. I really like the tripped out vocals on this version, but both work.

good luck with your gig tonight dude, and I gotta hook up with you guys again soon, it’s been a while. peace!

Yea im with ya on the vocals but im always down with instrumental disco jams! They always make me feel like im in the presence of a ghost.

Im building the studio at the moment, nice big one too. Gonna set up all the gear and also a nice little dj/rec area. you’ll have to call down and have a nice smokey jam, the green is back!! and this time….we’ll have some records that may stand up to your awesome collection. been on a serious vinyl binge since you last came down, that shit really opened my eyes…seriously!

Really feelin what you did with moodymann and chic is this mix too. i love mixing sample and sampled tune together, its a lovely dynamic…

Gonna Rick Wade the hell out of this club tonight!

  6. Very appealing tracklisting. Will mos def give this mix a listen. That Virgo joint, “Goin’ Thru Life,” is my shit (LOL). I like that Juju & Jordash cut, “Time Slip” too.

Inadvertently I made up a list of downloads I might purchase as some of my homies have gone digital and are trying to bring me on board. I have that “Time Slip” cut as a possible purchase. Think I would like this on vinyl as well (Gonna go back to the website now & see if it’s also available on vinyl.)

Thanks for the mix. And thanks for this blog which — if I seriously get back into purchasing music — I will definitely use as a reference to find some of the most soulful “techno” available (and gems from other genres as well).

  7. Great mix – really enjoying this. Total danke.

  12. qtel says:

Why is it eq’d so badly…it’s all mids…which makes it horrible to listen to…sure the systems were bad back then but they never made me deaf…

  13. pipecock says:

this mix? are you sure something’s not up with your player, i just looked at the spectrum analyzer during playback and it wasnt really very mid heavy at all.

  14. Zeit says:

Looks like a great selection. Can’t wait to hear it.
